With 159 AFL games to his name, Matthew Wright is passing on his knowledge of the game to the next generation as a Development Coach with the Adelaide Football Club.
An Adelaide local, Wright played his junior football with North Adelaide before being selected by the Adelaide Crows in the 2009 Rookie Draft.
A midfielder who could impact the scoreboard, Wright worked his way on to the senior list at the end of 2011, and in 2012 he found a regular spot in the Crows line-up.
After six seasons and 94 games with the Crows, Wright was recruited by Carlton ahead of 2016 as a delisted free agent.
Playing as a small forward, Wright’s first year at the Blues saw him take out the club Leading Goalkicker award.
Across his three seasons at Carlton, Wright played 65 of a possible 66 games before retiring at the end of 2018. Upon retiring, Wright returned to Adelaide and the Crows.
He is currently a Development Coach with the club, and in 2019 captained the club’s SANFL side.
