Growing up in Melbourne’s eastern suburbs, Adams played his junior football with Woori Yallock before being part of the Eastern Ranges TAC Cup program. Adams captained Vic Metro at the 2006 NAB AFL Under 18 Championships, winning their MVP award before being selected at pick 3 in the 2007 NAB AFL Rookie Draft by North Melbourne. He became one of North’s consistent players, with a couple of top five finishes in the club’s Best and Fairest. Adams played 104 games with the Kangaroos before his career was cruelly cut short by a series of concussions at 28.

Following his retirement mid-season in 2015, Adams worked in a development role with the Kangaroos young players for the remainder of the season. In 2016, Adams worked to build on the work experience he gained in the plumbing industry while on North’s list, and took up a role as Senior Coach of South Croydon in Melbourne’s Eastern Football League, renowned as one of the strongest competitions in Victoria. In 2017, Adams steered them to a maiden Division 1 Premiership. Adams accepted the role of Senior Coach at Coburg in the VFL to continue his coaching journey and was at the helm of the Lions for two seasons. He then returned to the Kangaroos as a Development Coach for the 2020 AFL season.
