Travel, outdoor activities and time with his dog are what makes Hilton Cartwright happy. Mix in a bit of cricket and you've got a pretty good insight into this talented all rounder.
Cartwright was born in Harare, Zimbabwe. He spent his early life in Marondera, and at the age of 11 emigrated to Australia with his family who settled in Perth. Cartwright attended Wesley College and represented Western Australia at the 2008–09 Australian Under-17 Championships, and subsequently progressed to the state’s under-23 side in the Futures League, debuting in February 2012. At grade cricket level, he plays for the South Perth Cricket Club. Cartwright also holds British citizenship, and spent the 2010 English season playing for Sidmouth in the Devon Cricket League.
Cartwright was selected to debut for Western Australia in List A cricket in 2012 and also made his T20 debut for the Perth Scorchers that season. As a batting allrounder he had a breakout summer in 2015-16, and consequently was called into Australia’s ODI and Test squads in 2017. In 2015-16, he scored 180 Matador Cup runs at 45 for the Cricket Australia XI before going on to a Sheffield Shield campaign that brought 409 runs at 68.16. In November 2016, Cartwright was named in an Australia squad for the first time, for an ODI series against New Zealand, and although he didn’t play, a Test debut was to come against Pakistan in Sydney in January 2017 as well as his ODI debut against India later in the year. 2017 saw him named as Bradman Young Cricketer of the year as well as winning the Laurie Swale Medal as the best player in WA. Cartwright continues to play for Western Australia in First Class cricket and is a member of the Melbourne Stars in the BBL.

You walk out to bat, you know your game plan, you don’t question anything and you feel like whatever comes at you, you’re prepared and capable to counter that and make runs.
